O GAUGE

  • S 70-00 small lineside office with S 70-02 office interior
  • Build time approx 3 hours
  • Painting time approx 6 hours

Glue used:

  • Gorrilla Wood glue
  • Superglue for painted parts
  • Everbuild contact adhesive for glazing

Paints used:

  • Model sprayed with polyurethane yacht varnish from a rattle can
  • Pheonix Precision paints P953. Dark red brick used as base brick colour
  • Humbrol Matt 98 for window and door arches
  • Humbrol Matt white sprayed on windows
  • Door painted with Humbrol Matt 94
  • Humbrol Matt 98, 82, 100, 153 for individual bricks
  • Revell acrylic white used as mortar colour. Applied without diluting and then wiped off with kitchen cloth. Recommend to paint the model with gloss varnish (polyurethane yacht varnish from a rattle can) prior to applying mortar colour to avoid colour mixing.
  • Model sealed with RailMatch matt varnish
  • Thin cellophane foil used as glazing
  • Roof base painted with Humbrol Brown and then dry brushed with Railmatch LMS freight grey

 

 

O GAUGE

  • GWR Signal box B 70-13L with LCC 73-31 balcony added and hipped roof build with BM 70-00. Floor cut out from LCC 74-48 to match the size of stock floor from the kit (to get wood plank effect).
  • Painted in approximation to the Blue Anchor Station signal box in Somerset
  • Build time approx 12 hours
  • Painting time approx 18 hours

Glue used:

  • Gorilla Wood Glue
  • Superglue for painted parts
  • Everbuild contact adhesive for glazing

Paints used:

  • Railmatch acrylic 2423 mixed with Railmatch acrylic 2424 in 9 to 1 ratio. Painted in two coats onto the brickwork
  • Humbrol enamel 32 used for engineering bricks.
  • Brick base model without windows sprayed with generous coat of Paint factory yacht varnish.
  • Railmatch acrylic 2122 used undiluted for mortar. Applied generously, wiped into all of the mortar lines then wiped off with kitchen cloth.
  • Signal box inside painted with Phoenix Precision Paints P21. Light Stone and Humbrol enamel 186.
  • Windows painted with Railmatch enamel 421 matt white.
  • Window frames painted with Phoenix Precision Paints P22. dark stone.
  • Top windows woodwork and doors painted with Phoenix Precision Paints P21. Light Stone
  • Staircase and balcony painted with Phoenix Precision Paints P21. and P22.
  • Staircase, balcony, and windows painted with paint factory matt clear varnish (Can says its matt but it gives satin finish which is what I wanted)
  • Floor cut out of LCC 74-48 and painted with Humbrol Enamel 94
  • Roof put together with modified LCC 73-27 combined with two LCC 73-28. Roof tiles made with BM 70-00 roof painted sprayed with Halfords grey primer as base coat. Matt black thinned down and applied to the roof to darken it then wiped off.
  • Interior modified by lowering the shelf and shortening levers. Interior painted with various enamel paints by Humbrol, Revell, Railmatch, and Phoenix precision.
  • Chimney painted the same way as walls. Sprinkled with black weathering powder and sealed with matt varnish.

 

OO GAUGE

  • GWR standard station loosely based on Hagley Station near Stourbridge on the border of West Midlands and Worcestershire.
  • Painted in approximation to the Hagley station as seen on pictures online (typical GWR station colour scheme).
  • Built from various LCC parts
  • Build time approx 10 hours
  • Painting time approx 12 hours

Glue used:

  • Elmer’s Glue-All
  • Superglue for painted parts
  • Everbuild contact adhesive for glazing

Paints used:

  • Hycote Red oxide primer sprayed in two coats
  • Coat of yaht varnish from rattle can (cheap stuff from local hardware store)
  • RailMatch 605 GWR Roof White used undiluted to highlight mortar lines (applied generously and then wiped off) Not happy with how brickwork turned out, too patchy in places. Would work better with acrylic paint.
  • Pheonix P953 used to drybrush brickwork
  • Railmatch 1407 matt varnish sprayed over brickwork in a modest coat
  • Railmatch 606 used as light stone
  • Railmatch 607 used as dark stone (not happy with the shade, too light and not enough red pigment)
  • Glazing – polyester acetate from LCUT creative range glued to windows with everbuild contact adhesive
  • Door handles painted with Pheonix P984
  • Roof base coat painted with Humbrol 98
  • Roof washed with heavily thinned down matt black Railmatch
  • Chimneys base coated with Pheonix P953
  • Mortar lines painted with diluted Revell Aqua Color 361 05
  • Roof sealed with RailMatch 407 Matt Varnish
  • Moss glued in patches with Gorilla glue (optional step, works better in O gauge)
  • Roof glued to base building with superglue
